Sabeth Holland : « Sensualité et volupté des couleurs »

Qui a un jour vu un tableau de Sabeth Holland n'oubliera jamais son style et le reconnaîtra entre tous, tant ses toiles – qui mélangent sur plusieurs couches huile, pigments et métaux nobles – sont chamarrées et expressives. Fascinée par la sensualité et la volupté des couleurs, l'artiste suisse crée un monde onirique et fabuleux aux teintes gaies et lumineuses rehaussées d'or véritable.

Bien que très rapidement reconnue au-delà des frontières helvétiques et malgré les succès qu'elle a déjà connus, la personnalité artistique de Sabeth Holland commence tout juste à déployer son potentiel. Sa carrière est d'ailleurs empreinte d'une légèreté qui se retrouve dans ses œuvres.

D'emblée, un constat s'impose : l'œuvre de Sabeth Holland se caractérise par l'alternance de reliefs. Prenant le temps de créer, elle cherche en effet à donner à ses œuvres profondeur, authenticité et durabilité en y superposant plusieurs couches de couleurs et des éléments graphiques. Ainsi, les couches supérieures présentent la plupart du temps une texture quasi-organique aux surfaces pigmentées de velours, auxquelles s'ajoutent de la peinture à l'huile travaillée en pleine pâte, ainsi que de généreuses quantités d'or. Par un procédé de grattage et de creusage – l'étape successive –, l'artiste donne au regard la possibilité de découvrir par endroits les couleurs des couches inférieures. Il en ressort alors un mélange de niveaux n'obéissant à aucune règle de la perspective. L'inconnu se révèle alors, l'œuvre terminée laissant apparaître l'apesanteur et l'intemporel, signes distinctifs des créations de Sabeth Holland.

Malgré un côté abstrait très affirmé, l'artiste conserve toujours un lien avec ses sujets. En effet, la majeure partie de ses créations s'inspirent de formes organiques sorties de leur milieu naturel et replacées dans de nouveaux contextes.

Des sentiments aussi profonds que l'amour, l'affection et la joie se retrouvent ainsi transposés dans ces représentations figuratives, tandis que – autre évidence – les coloris de l'atmosphère sont autant d'allusions à l'irréel et à l'imaginaire. L'homme et la nature se rejoignent donc dans une unité tenant plus du rêve que de la réalité. Mais, au-delà de cette apparence d'illusion, les traits énergiques et la palette de couleurs riches en contrastes et en nuances font des tableaux de Sabeth Holland des œuvres parfaitement accessibles.

Comme peu d'artistes en sont capables, Sabeth Holland parvient, grâce à un langage de formes et de symboles encore inconnu jusqu'ici et qu'elle a elle-même créé, à rendre visibles dans les structures profondes de ses toiles les mécanismes passionnés des mondes affectif et empirique. Sa sensibilité exacerbée, son sens inné de l'association de couleurs et son aspiration à la transcendance constituent les pierres angulaires de son œuvre, vouée à la création d'un monde aux antipodes des teintes noires et grises de celui que nous connaissons. La joie que dégagent ses tableaux se veut unifiante, communicative et stimulante.

Depuis 1995, Sabeth Holland a participé à de nombreuses expositions internationales.
Ses oeuvres sont régulièrement présentées lors d'expositions individuelles ou collectives en Autriche, au Liechtenstein et en Suisse. Au cours des huit dernières années, se sont succédés un nombre impressionnant de chefs-d'œuvre, allant de projets globaux de construction à des créations à l'air libre. Depuis 2000, son œuvre a fait l'objet de différentes publications telles que « 15 Years Contemporary Art », « Sabeth Holland – p.j.j.n.h. » ou encore « Sabeth Holland – 2003, bunt ».

Wer einmal ein Bild von Sabeth Holland gesehen hat, wird ihren Malstil nicht vergessen und überall wieder erkennen, so bunt, vielschichtig und aussagekräftig sind ihre Gemälde in Öl, Pigmenten und edlen Metallen auf Leinwand. Ganz der Sinnlichkeit und Farbenlust verschrieben entwickelt die Schweizerin eine verträumte, märchenhafte Welt in fröhlichen, leuchtenden Tönen und echtem Gold.

Sabeth Holland ist eine Künstlerpersönlichkeit, die innerhalb kürzester Zeit über die Landesgrenzen hinaus Anerkennung fand und trotz der schon erzielten Erfolge, erst angefangen hat ihr Potenzial zu entfalten. In ihrem Werdegang ist eine bestimmte Leichtigkeit auszumachen, die sich auch in ihren Werken wieder findet.

Dennoch ist das Plakative nicht ihr Ding. Sie sucht das Tiefgründige, das Echte, das Dauerhafte. Die Künstlerin lässt sich Zeit beim Aufbauen ihrer Werke. Diese entstehen, indem in zahlreichen Schichten Farbaufträge und zeichnerische Elemente übereinander gelegt werden. Meist findet sich in den obersten Lagen eine fast organisch wirkende Textur, die aus samtartigen Pigmentflächen, pastos aufgetragener Ölfarbe und grosszügig angelegtem Gold besteht. In einer nächsten Bearbeitungsphase wird geritzt und gegraben, um den Blick stellenweise wieder auf die tiefer liegenden Farbflächen zu lenken. So ergibt sich ein Vermischen der Bildebenen frei von jeder Perspektive. Es offenbart sich das Verborgene, und entfaltet die für Sabeth Holland typische Zeit- und Schwerelosigkeit im fertigen Kunstwerk.

Trotz einer starken Abstraktion gibt sie die Verbindung zum Gegenstand nie ganz auf. Ihre Kompositionen beruhen meist auf organischen Formen, die jedoch in ihrem Wesen dem natürlichen Vorbild entwachsen sind und sich in neuen Kontexten wieder finden.

Tiefe Gefühle wie Liebe, Verbundenheit und Freude werden auf ihre Platzhalter in den figürlichen Darstellungen übertragen. – Unverkennbar auch hier eine Farbgebung des Atmosphärischen, eine Andeutung von Irrealität und Märchenhaftigkeit. Der Mensch verbindet sich mit der Natur. Es entsteht eine Einheit, mehr Teil eines Traumes als reale Präsens. Dennoch rücken die Gemälde nicht in ungreifbare Ferne. Das verhindert der kraftvolle Duktus, die kontrast- und nuancenreiche Farbpalette.

Wie kaum einer anderen Künstlerin gelingt es Sabeth Holland die spannenden Vorgänge der eigenen Gefühls- und Erfahrungswelten in den Tiefenstrukturen ihrer Leinwände und in einer bis anhin nicht da gewesenen, von ihr entwickelten Formen- und Symbolsprache, sichtbar werden zu lassen. Ihre aussergewöhnliche Sensibilität, ihr verblüffender Sinn für Farbakkorde und ihr feines Gespür fürden transzendenten Bereich fokussieren den Mittelpunkt ihres Schaffens im Aufbau einer Gegenwelt zu den Schwarz- und Grautönen des Weltgeschehens. Die Fröhlichkeit ihrer Werke wirkt einvernehmend, ansteckend und beflügelnd.

Seit 1995 ist sie an zahlreichen internationalen Kunstmessen vertreten.
Ihre Werke werden regelmässig in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in Österreich, Liechtenstein und der Schweiz gezeigt. Seit 1996 entstand eine eindrückliche Anzahl von Kunst – Gesamtkonzepten am Bau und im öffentlichen Raum. Die Publikationen „15 Years Contemporary Art“, „Sabeth Holland – p.j.j.n.h.” und “Sabeth Holland – 2003, bunt.” dokumentieren ihr Schaffen seit dem Jahr 2000.

Sabeth Holland : “Sensuality and the joy of colour”

Anyone who has seen a painting by Sabeth Holland will not forget her style and will immediately recognise it again anywhere - her work, in oil, pigments and precious metals on canvas, is so colourful, complex and meaningful. The Swiss artist's complete devotion to sensuality and the joy of colour has led her to create a dreamy, fairy-tale world in glorious, radiant colours and real gold.

Sabeth Holland is an artist who found international recognition within a very short space of time and, despite the success she has already achieved, has only just begun to reveal her potential. It is possible to make out a certain ease in her development that is mirrored in her work.

Nevertheless, it is not her style to make bold statements. She seeks out what is profound, genuine and lasting, and she allows herself time to create her works of art. These emerge through her method of applying numerous layers of colour and graphical elements on top of one another. For the most part, the texture of the uppermost layers has an almost organic effect, consisting of velvety pigment surfaces, oil colours applied in a pastos technique and generous amounts of gold. The next stage of the process involves scratching and digging at the layers in order to draw the viewer's gaze here and there, back to the surfaces of colour lying deeper within. This produces a painting composed of a mixture of levels and free of any perspective. It shows that which is hidden and, in the finished artwork, reveals the timelessness and weightlessness typical of Sabeth Holland.

Despite a strong use of abstraction, she does not completely give up the connection to the figurative. Her compositions are based mainly on organic forms. However, in their essence, these forms have developed away from their natural models and find themselves in new contexts.

Deep feelings such as love, intimacy and joy are transferred to their representatives in the figurative depictions. Unmistakable here too is that she gives colour to the atmospheric, as well as the hint of unreality and fantasy. People are combined with nature. A unity emerges, more part of a dream than a real presence. Nonetheless, her paintings do not recede into an intangible distance. Her powerful characteristic style, and colour palette rich in contrasts and nuances, prevent this from happening.

Like scarcely any other artist, Sabeth Holland successfully manages to make the exciting events of her own emotions and experience become visible in the deep structures of her canvases, using an unprecedented language of forms and symbols that she has created. Her extraordinary sensitivity, her amazing sense of colour harmony and her acute feel for the transcendental realm direct the focus of her work on building an alternative world to the black and grey tones of world events. The joy of her works has a harmonious, infectious and inspiring effect. Since 1995, she has been represented at numerous international art fairs.

Her works are regularly shown in individual and group exhibitions in Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Since 1996, an impressive number of total art concepts have been incorporated in the built environment and in public spaces.
